Chiloscyllium punctatum, commonly known as the Brownbanded bambooshark, is relatively small (adults can still grow over one meter though) bottom shark. As juveniles they have white and almost black vertical bands, but as they grow older the black becomes more of a brown colour and in adults these bands are almost invisible.
These fish inhabit coral reefs and can often be found in tidal pools and can even survive out of the water up to 12 hours. They feed mainly on small fish and invertebrates living in/on the bottom. They can best be fed with enriched frozen and live meaty foods like all kinds of shrimp, fish and the occasionally mussel, and mysis seems to be a favorite, especially when just hatched.
Here you buy an egg, which need to be placed in a clean spot (or hang on a fishing line without puncturing the egg) with a gentle flow and lots of oxygen. Incubation time is 3,5 – 6 months, so it can take anywhere from 1 to 180 days to hatch depending on temperature and the age of the egg!
