Calappa calappa (Smooth Box Crab)
Calappa calappa, commonly known as the Smooth Box Crab or Red-Spotted Box Crab, is a tropical marine crab found throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Recognized by its rounded, highly patterned shell and large shield-like claws, it spends much of its time buried in sandy seabeds for protection and camouflage. This nocturnal predator feeds mainly on mollusks, using its powerful claws to crack or pry open shells. The species is admired for its unique appearance, remarkable adaptations, and important role in coastal marine ecosystems.
